Our clients approached us with a large, underdeveloped garden in the leafy neighbourhood of Bearsden, where an expansive lawn of uneven levels dominated the entire space, leaving much of its potential unrealised. They envisioned enhancing their garden's functionality whilst maintaining its established character through thoughtful hard landscaping improvements that would bring structure and purpose to the sprawling area. The primary goal was to create a stunning circular patio at the rear of the garden, partially sunken to provide an intimate gathering space that would serve as the garden's new focal point. They requested natural stone materials that would harmoniously complement their existing main patio, with the flexibility to upgrade to premium materials for enhanced visual impact. The design brief also called for a gently meandering path to connect the existing garage steps to the new patio area, softening the garden's overall geometry whilst improving circulation throughout the space, plus a practical drying area solution behind the garage that would work both visually and within budget whilst preserving their cherished main lawn and incorporating complementary planting areas.

Introduction
Our Design Process
Our architects created a design that blends perfectly with the existing parts of the garden nearer to the house, using the level differences as an advantage to create two separate terraces divided by beautiful Indian sandstone block retaining walls.
- Central Feature: In the focal point of the design, we placed a circular patio surrounded by a custom-built stone bench, a new cosy addition that gives the owners a totally new perspective on their garden space.
- Connectivity: The new patio is connected with the old part of the garden by a long, geometrically meandering path of sandstone slabs and brick pavers - a very classic and elegant combination that enhances circulation throughout the space.
- Planting Scheme: The real focus for us was to create an outstanding planting scheme, with a classic English garden selection that makes this garden sing with colours and textures throughout the seasons.
- Natural Backdrop: As the garden is large, our suggestion for the background of the formal plant beds was to create a natural flower meadow bursting with colours and changing from month to month, providing year-round interest and a dynamic backdrop to the more structured landscaping elements.
