Introduction

Our client envisioned a Japanese-style garden for their space. The design had to incorporate many traditional elements, such as water features, lanterns, a dry river, and mossy mounds. One challenge our design team faced was establishing a seamless flow between the main sitting area near the house and an additional cosy retreat at the back. We were also tasked with screening the utility area for added functionality. Discover how we executed this project:

Our Design Process

  • Created multiple zones pivoting around a centrally-located mossy mount with incorporated rock and water features.
  • Painted the fence to add depth to the space, making it visually bigger and emphasizing the greenery and other elements.
  • Installed a central patio at the house consisting of two parts joined by a hardwood bridge spread over a dry river.
  • Added a sitting area towards the back with space for a pergola to be built in stage two.
  • Incorporated undefined organic paths of gravel of various grades.
  • Included a Zen garden-like element in the pathway with geometrically raked gravel around sculptural boulders.
